Fox Archives: 75th anniversary of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Lifeboat’ (1944)
Jan. 12 marks the 75th anniversary of the theatrical release of the film “Lifeboat” (1944), which was the only 20th Century Fox film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. It starred Tallulah Bankhead and William Bendix, along with Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, John Hodiak, Henry Hull, Heather Angel, Hume Cronyn and Canada Lee. “Lifeboat” was Hitchcock’s first film that took place in a singular setting. It was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Director for Hitchcock, Best Story for John Steinbeck, and Best Cinematography for Glen MacWilliams. 21CF wins 6 Golden Globes, including Best Picture (Drama) for 20th Century Fox’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
At last evening’s 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards, 21st Century Fox won six total awards across film and TV categories, more than any other media company. Our film studios walked away with three awards, including Best Picture (Drama) for “Bohemian Rhapsody”; our TV studios also took home three awards. Nabbing a record 10 prizes at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), 14 nominations at the upcoming Critics Choice Awards and five nominations at this weekend’s Golden Globes, Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos’ unpredictable tragi-comic period satire “The Favourite” is shaping up to be a hot Oscar contender for Fox Searchlight. Besides enthralling film critics, art-house movie audiences have also found the lascivious palace intrigue endearing: During its limited-release debut weekend, it earned the highest per-screen average (for specialty box office) since “La La Land” in 2016. In her first collaboration with Yorgos, production designer Fiona Crombie (“Macbeth,” “Una” and TV series “Top of the Lake”) brought to life the royal court of mercurial and gout-ridden Queen Anne in 18th century England. 25 years ago today: FOX Broadcasting Company wins the rights to the NFL’s NFC package
FOX is football, and it has been for 25 years now. On Dec. 18, 1993, FOX Broadcasting Company won the rights to broadcast the NFL’s package of NFC games, marking the 7-year-old network’s first step into regular sports programming.
