In the weeks leading up to the 90th Oscars on Sunday, March 4, we’ll take a look at our rich Academy Award history by sharing from the 20th Century Fox Archives.
This year Fox Searchlight has two nominations for Music (Original Score): Alexandre Desplat for “The Shape of Water” and Carter Burwell for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri“; 20th Century Fox also has one nomination for Music (Original Song): “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman,” music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
On April 7, 1970, at the 41st Academy Awards ceremony, Burt Bacharach took home the award for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture (not a Musical) and for Best Music (Song) (lyrics by Hal David) for “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”
The film, which was produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox, won two additional Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Writing (Story and Screenplay Based on Material Not Previously Published or Produced) and was also nominated for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Sound.

The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
