Morgan Freeman is sometimes jokingly referred to as God, thanks to his well-known role in the film “Bruce Almighty.” But the renowned actor and narrator is making a more profound connection to spirituality – and he’s taking us along for the journey. “The Story of God” is the new six-part documentary series hosted by Morgan and premiering on the National Geographic Channel on Sunday, April 3, at 9/8c.
The idea for “The Story of God” finds its roots in a visit to the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul about six years ago, where Morgan and his producing partner Lori McCreary began to realize there were profound things to learn about the world’s five main religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.
The goal of the documentary series is to discover how people’s beliefs about the meaning of life, God and other significant matters connect them. “We live in a time where people see differences,” Morgan said in a recent National Geographic magazine interview. “We’re trying to show them the commonalities. There are serious commonalities.”
