Key policymaking staff from the United States Senate, House of Representatives and Federal Communications Commission joined 21CF Public Affairs, FOX Sports and Major League Baseball representatives on Saturday, Sept. 16, for an up-close and personal look at the innovative technologies, intense investment, and highly skilled professionals required to produce and broadcast high-quality sporting events.
In a behind-the-scenes production tour of FOX Sports’ nationwide broadcast of the Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers game, the congressional and regulatory officials were guided on a tour of the production trucks, broadcast booth and on-field technological elements used to produce an MLB game. Matt Vasgersian and John Smoltz called the game and met with the staffers prior to the broadcast.
Erik Arneson, vice president of media relations for FOX Sports, and Wayne Fidelman of FOX Sports helped guide the group of government officials, who routinely face legislative and regulatory issues dealing with broadcast spectrum, carriage agreements, copyright law and broadcast standards, among other key communications and technology issues.
21CF Public Affairs has hosted similar MLB, NFL and USGA events, providing policymaking experts with a renewed appreciation for the investment, technology and logistical complexities in sports production and broadcasting.
“People take for granted that when they turn on their TV or open up the FOX Sports GO app, they are greeted with a beautifully choreographed, pristine production of their favorite sports team,” Erik said. “It’s not that simple behind the scenes. FOX Sports is constantly refreshing our approach with the most advanced technologies to bring viewers the very best experience imaginable.”
