In the weeks leading up to the 89th Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 26, we’ll take a look at our rich Academy Award history by sharing from the 20th Century Fox Archives.
This year, Madeline Fontaine is nominated for Costume Design for the film “Jackie.” The beauty of “Moulin Rouge!” earned two Oscars for Best Costume Design (Catherine Martin and Angus Strathie) and Best Art Direction (Art Direction: Catherine Martin; Set Decoration: Brigitte Broch) 16 years ago at the 74th Academy Awards. The musical was adorned by radiant colors, décor and intricate costumes. These attributes, paired with spectacular set pieces, created an artistic masterpiece as can be seen in the costume sketches, concept art and set pieces below.

The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
