Dame Joan Collins, television’s most iconic villainess in the 1980s, began her Hollywood career as a 20th Century Fox contract star during the late ‘50s and early ‘60s. Prior to her fame on the small screen, the “Dynasty” beauty was 20th Century Fox’s answer to Elizabeth Taylor. In fact, early in production, Joan screen-tested for and was the frontrunner for 1963’s “Cleopatra.”
Some of Joan’s most memorable early films at Fox are “The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing,” “Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys!” and “The Virgin Queen.” She has worked with movie legends including Richard Burton, Bing Crosby, Bette Davis, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Joan was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983 and received Lifetime Achievement Awards at both the San Diego and Sedona Film Festivals.

The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
