Based on the novel of the same name by Terry McMillan, Angela Bassett stars as tenacious Stella Payne, a 40-year-old hard-working and successful stockbroker, divorcee and single mother in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” Stella is convinced by her friends (played by Whoopi Goldberg and Regina King) to take a much needed, and well-deserved, vacation to Jamaica.
While in Jamaica, she meets a handsome young man named Winston Shakespeare, played by Taye Diggs, who happens to be 20 years her junior, and they are soon entangled in a steamy romance. Throughout the film, Stella struggles with trying to make space in her life for Winston while juggling her career, parenthood and friendships.
