Outdoor screening on top of parking garage at Nakatomi Plaza featured special appearances by film’s stars and more
This past weekend, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment staged an event for press and fans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Die Hard,” as well as the 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and Digital release of the film.
Knowing that they were literally standing on the most iconic “prop” at their disposal, the TCFHE team worked in conjunction with The Irvine Company to stage an elaborate screening of the film on top of the parking garage at Fox Plaza (aka Nakatomi Plaza), utilizing the building as a backdrop for attendees. In addition, the motor-court and surrounding area were transformed to include photo ops and Easter eggs for the “Die Hard” fans, including an official “Nakatomi Plaza” sign, a 1980s cop car, a limousine driven by “Argyle” and his teddy bear, and more.
Prior to the screening, more than 600 attendees were treated to a special introduction by stars Reginald VelJohnson and Bonnie Bedelia, who thanked the fans for making “Die Hard” the beloved action film that it is today – with Bedelia confirming its status as a “Christmas Classic!”
In addition to the screening, a select group of press was given a behind-the-scenes look at Fox Plaza, touring exclusive, rarely seen filming locations within the building, amplified by audio-visual enhancements highlighting key scenes. The engineering and security teams also pulled out all the stops, providing additional nods to the film throughout the tour, including bloody footprints, broken “glass” shards, an actual hose and reel hanging from the building and, of course, a trip to the helipad.
It was a tremendous celebration of an iconic film – “Yippee ki-yay,” indeed.
