On March 7, 21st Century Fox Public Affairs hosted an advance screening of 20th Century Fox’s “Love, Simon” (in theaters March 16) for policymakers, staff and media in Washington, D.C.

In his introductory remarks, Robert Edmonson, Chief of Staff to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and recently elected President of the LGBT Congressional Staff Association, noted the importance of storytelling that explores the experiences of LGBT individuals.

Welcoming guests to the screening, 21CF EVP of Public Affairs Chip Smith expressed his excitement about the film and the local LGBT community leaders in attendance: “I’m proud to work for a company eager to support storytelling that shares different experiences and opens our minds to new ideas and new perspectives. And I’m glad that we’re joined by so many people who have helped move the conversation around LGBT issues forward – with the voice you use, with the office you hold and with the example you set.”

Love, Simon” is the heartfelt coming-of-age story of 17-year-old Simon Spier coming out to his family and friends. Set in a suburban high school, the film follows Spier’s journey toward embracing his identity, even as he deals with the fear of rejection from those he loves, as well as bullying and harassment at school.
