In the weeks leading up to the 90th Oscars on Sunday, March 4th, we’ll take a look at our rich Academy Award history by sharing from our 20th Century Fox Archives.
This year for the 90th Oscars, 20th Century Fox has three Best Actress in a Leading Role nominees: Sally Hawkins for “The Shape of Water,” Frances McDormand for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and Meryl Streep in “The Post.” Meryl Streep was previously nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 20th Century Fox’s “Silkwood” and “The Devil Wears Prada.”
At the 52nd Academy Awards ceremony held on April 14, 1980, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, Sally Field won for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her captivating performance in “Norma Rae” playing the title character. In addition to Sally Field’s win for Best Actress in a Leading Role, “Norma Rae” won for Best Original Song for “It Goes Like It Goes” (David Shire and Norman Gimbel).

The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
