Earlier this month, Fox News partnered with anchor Dana Perino’s Minute Mentoring Program to give 120 Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network colleagues a glimpse of what a mentoring relationship could look like. A cross between a formal mentoring program and speed dating, Minute Mentoring provides valuable face time between potential mentors and mentees in a casual environment.
In its kickoff event in Fox News’ New York City headquarters, 33 mentors from across 13 different departments met with the mentees over the course of an hour. Each mentor was assigned to a table with 3-4 mentees, who rotated every 10 minutes to another table. Mentors were asked to come prepared with their top three pieces of career advice to kick off conversations with the mentees.
“I started Minute Mentoring after I finished at the White House in 2009 to try to address a supply and demand problem,” Dana, a former White House Press Secretary, told TVNewser. “Young professionals are eager for guidance and mentors want to provide it but don’t always have a lot of time or all of the answers.”
Mentors included Suzanne Scott, President of Programming; Jay Wallace, President of News Editorial; Brian Jones, President of Fox Business Network; Kevin Lord, EVP of Human Resources & Head of Compliance; Amy Listerman, CFO; Marianne Gambelli, President of Advertising Sales; Joanne Po, Head of Digital Content Development & Executive Producer; Juan Williams, co-host of “The Five”; and Gerri Willis, host of “The Willis Report.”
This event served as a precursor to a formal mentoring program Fox News plans to launch.
