On Wednesday, Sept. 13, 21st Century Fox, along with colleagues at National Geographic, hosted a reception and sneak preview of the new documentary special “Breaking2” (airing Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 8/7c on National Geographic Channel) at Nike’s Field House in Washington, D.C. “Breaking2” captures the powerful journey of three world-class runners as they attempt to break a marathon world record in Monza, Italy.

The event allowed many of the people involved with the documentary, including National Geographic Partners CEO Declan Moore and EVP of Sales and Partnerships Brendan Ripp, to share their experiences with senior U.S. House and Senate staffers and other D.C. tastemakers. Abby Samuelson, global director of integrated brand running for Nike, described the diverse team of experts in both science and sport that were determined to try to achieve the unthinkable. “National Geographic’s belief in this project has been unwavering from the beginning, and this partnership and their support will allow the world to see the audacious story of Breaking2,” she said.

Brian Lovett, VP of Production and Development for National Geographic Studios, gave the audience a behind-the-scenes look at how the story of three extraordinary athletes and their teams was brought to life.

During the reception, Nike offered guests a test-run experience on the Field House treadmill with the VaporFly racing shoes, designed especially for the “Breaking2” athletes during their attempt to break the two-hour marathon barrier.
