Thirty years ago this month, “Raising Arizona” was released widely in U.S. theaters. This was Joel and Ethan Cohen’s second film, which they wrote and directed. The dark comedy starred Nicholas Cage, Holly Hunter (in her first lead role), William Forsythe, John Goodman, Frances McDormand and Randall “Tex” Cobb. The cinematographer, Barry Sonnenfeld, would later become a director himself.

“Raising Arizona,” which was distributed by 20th Century Fox Film and had its wide opening on April 17, 1987, went on to gross more than $29 million worldwide.

Here are some behind-the-scenes photos and scene stills from the film, as well as the trailer:

The Fox Archives is mandated to collect, catalog, preserve and make accessible the following assets of the 20th Century Fox studios: props, set decoration, photographs, art department and publicity materials from our film and television productions, and from the 20th Century Fox studio itself. We work primarily with internal Fox groups but also from time to time with outside organizations such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.
