The film “Taps,” produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox Film, was released in December 1981 and went on to gross nearly $36 million domestically. The drama about a group of military cadets fighting to protect their academy from real estate developers starred George C. Scott, Timothy Hutton, Tom Cruise, Sean Penn and Ronny Cox, and was directed by Harold Becker.
